Marion Isabel Simpson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our devoted mother, grandmother and sister, Marion Isabel Simpson of Dartmouth, on Sunday December 14, 2014. Born in Tidnish on June 9, 1924, Marion was a daughter of the late Corey and Leona (Trenholm) Chappell. She grew up on the family farm on the Joe Burt Road and as a young woman worked for Canada-Car. Marion married Carmen in 1944 and together they owned and operated the Corvette Restaurant in Amherst from 1947 to 1957. In 1964 they moved to Dartmouth and continued to make a comfortable home for their family. Marion was very creative and took great pleasure in knitting, crochet and wood working. She enjoyed the company of family and good friends, spending summers at her cottage in Lorneville and playing cards with numerous bridge clubs.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Diane Simpson and Marilyn (Barry) Larsen; sister, Cora Chappell, sister-in-law Betty (Kenneth) Chappell; granddaughters Jennifer (Adam) Spurr and Joanne (Paul) Hayes; great-grandchildren Katelyn and Justin Spurr, and John, Victoria and Sarah Hayes. Marion was predeceased by her husband Ellis Carmen Simpson and siblings Eva-Marie, Kenneth, Lyle and Lawrence Chappell.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Ivany Place, 123 Gary Martin Drive, Bedford, at 3:00 on December 20. Rev. Phillip Kennedy of Woodlawn United Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christina and Hedley G. Ivany Place, where Marion lived her final years surrounded by friends and extraordinary care workers.
