­NEW GLASGOW – Graham Douglas Fraser, age 87, of Chisholm St., New Glasgow, passed away December 17, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born November 29, 1927 at Priestville, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Robert and Minnie (Campbell) Fraser.
Graham was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Graham was employed at Tidewater Construction for many years and later employed at Michelin Tire from where he retired. Graham was an active member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, served on the Board of Managers and committees of the church and was also a member of the Men’s Choir. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in New Glasgow, volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of the Pictou County Food Bank and an active member of the Michelin Retirees Social Club and Stellarton Male Chorus for many years. Graham loved to travel especially to sports venues. He and Phoebe travelled extensively and in later years enjoyed following his children’s travel adventures.
He is survived by his wife the former Phoebe Martin, son Allan (Darlene Jamieson), Halifax; daughters Beverly (Joe) Curry, Amherst; Karen Fraser (Jay Gogan), Amherst; grandson Benjamin Graham Curry, Amherst; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graham was predeceased by brothers Walter and Alex, sisters: Mae Yerxa, Bertha Barbour, Laura MacDonald and Merle Garner.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, December 19th, 2014 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 20th in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private family burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Pictou County Food Bank or the Parkinson’s Society of Nova Scotia.
Graham’s greatest wish was for the Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup victory of 1967 to be repeated sooner than later.
