Linda Elaine Elkins-Schmitt

Passed on: December 18th, 2014

Formerly of Corner Brook, NL, Linda Elaine Elkins-Schmitt died peacefully in Landshut, Germany on December 18, 2014 at the age of sixty-three. She is survived by her devoted husband: Ulrich Schmitt of Hohenpolding, Germany, her loving parents; Cort and Ena Elkins of Corner Brook, her sister: Gail (Alan) of London, Ontario, her brother: Barry (Debbie) of Corner Brook, and her brother-in-law: Harmut Schmitt of Germany. She also leaves behind four nieces who were the light of her life – Andrea, Anna, Lindsey and Amanda as well as cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Linda is predeceased in death by her grandparents: Abram and Jane Elkins and Frank and Lucy Critch, as well as many generations of relatives who were extremely important to her through her work as a family historian. This past January, Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer. She faced this adversity with great determination and optimism. In an effort to support her from afar, “Linda’s Army” was formed. Family members from all over North America and Germany walked every day in support of her journey. It was a source of great joy for Linda as it brought the family together in ways that never could have been anticipated. Linda’s Army has walked over 20,000 kms and will continue journeying together in Linda’s honour. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date. In her memory, donations can be made to the Corner Brook SPCA.
