It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Delores ‘Marie’ Murphy, 56 of Sydney, on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, from brain cancer.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Isabel Rose Murphy, Sydney River and the late John Patrick Murphy.
Marie attended many schools throughout her life, and for the past 30 years she attended the Horizon Achievement Centre on Prince Street and Macaulay’s Lane. Marie attended and enjoyed many activities at the Horizon Achievement Centre, such as dances and bowling. She looked forward to summer camp each year in Orangedale. She also loved music and her favourite TV programs.
She is survived by her mother, Isabel Murphy, Sydney River; sisters, Roseanne (Bill) Murphy, Ottawa and Andrea Murphy, Sydney; brother, John Francis (Debbie), Sydney; niece Jody (Jeff), Sydney and nephew, Sean, Vancouver.
The family requests that in memory of Marie donations in her memory be made to the New Horizon Building Fund.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Rev. Duaine Devereaux will officiate. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney River.
