Hazel MacLeod Hazel MacLeod

Hazel Evangeline (MacLean- MacKinnon) passed away at the Palliative Care Unit, Charlottetown on December 24, 2014.
For the past 5 and a half years, Hazel fought a courageous battle with breast cancer. She fought this battle with dignity, grace, strength and a deep faith.
A resident of Charlottetown for 30 years, she was formerly of Peter’s Road and Brooklyn.
Wife of the late Lloyd MacKinnon and the late Sterling MacLeod; mother of Lloyd (Carol) MacKinnon, Charlottetown and Valorie (Alex) Skinner of Windsor, Nova Scotia; grandmother of Timothy and Alan MacKinnon. Sister of Charles(Phyllis) MacLean, Charlottetown P.E.I.; Leith- deceased(Dorothy) MacLean, Charlottetown P.E.I.; Milton (Arlene) MacLean ,Burlington, Ontario; Etta (Paul) Connolly, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Ralph (Coleen) MacLean, Dartmouth, N.S.; Ken(Brenda) MacLean, Sturgeon, P.E.I.; Sister-in-law of Connie(Finley) MacLeod, Marjorie (Donnie) Munroe, Margaret (Donnie- deceased) Carmichael, John (Lois) Matheson, Malcolm (Vanda) Matheson, Gordon Matheson, Mary (George- deceased) Matheson, Emily(Earle- deceased) Matheson.
Besides her husbands, the late Lloyd MacKinnon and the late Sterling MacLeod and her brother Leith MacLean, she was predeceased by her parents Willard and Blanche (Crawford) MacLean; sister-in-laws Debbie MacLean, Christine Matheson, Catherine (Irving) MacKay, Mary (Neil) Brydon, Edith MacLeod, Helen Roberts. Brother-in-laws Hector Matheson, Earle Matheson, George Matheson and Finley MacLeod.
Hazel is also survived by her much loved friends and large extended family, including the MacLean, MacKinnon, Matheson and MacLeod families.
Born in 1936, Hazel taught school in her earlier years. Hazel was a homemaker, putting her everything into her family, home and the community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Brooklyn Women’s Institute, served on the P.E.I. WI Provincial Board, and the Building Committee for relocating the Valleyfield United Church to its current location. Hazel was a trustee of the Brooklyn School and later served on the committee involved in the consolidation of rural schools in the Montague area.
While living in Charlottetown she volunteered at the Hospital auxiliary gift shop, the Hospital Lodge as well as being an adult literacy teacher.
Her pastimes included sewing, craft making and planting and tending her flower garden. She enjoyed attending card parties, family get-togethers and Ceilidhs with her friends and family.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Sunday 2-4 p.m., then to Ferguson-Logan Montague Funeral Home for visitation Sunday 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday from Ferguson-Logan Montague Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Brooklyn Cemetery, beside her first husband- Lloyd MacKinnon.
Memorial donations may be made to the Brooklyn Cemetery (c/o Kathy Crane 2688 Brooklyn Road, RR# 1 Montague, PEI C0A 1R0) or the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Centre of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Special thanks for the excellent and compassionate care Hazel received from Dr. Barry Fleming, the Integrated Palliative Care Team and the Palliative Care Unit, the Cancer Treatment Center and the many friends and family who supported her through her journey.
