Lesley Moira Bistevins - 81, of Kentville, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on January 20, 1934 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and raised in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, she was the eldest child of the late Leslie and Amelia (Sim) Bates. She immigrated to Canada as a young bride in 1963 with her husband, Duncan Graham. While living in Toronto, she worked as a secretary with Brook Bond and Duncan worked with De Havilland Aircraft. Following Duncan's death, she moved to Sault Ste. Marie for a brief time and then to Nova Scotia, where she lived in Wolfville, Kentville, Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Bridgewater. Lesley married her second husband, Talivaldis Bistevins in 1978 and they were living in Bridgewater at the time of his death in 1985. She then moved back to Kentville, where she resided until her death. She was a keen bridge player, enjoyed playing scrabble and solving word puzzles, loved to read biographies and was a bit of a news hound. She had also volunteered with Fidelis House. Lesley was devoted to her family. She is survived by a sister, Patricia (Patrick) Jackson, King's Lynn, England; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Smith, Chester; Barbara Duffin-Bates, Wolfville; a brother-in-law, John Beaton (Frances Bates, deceased), Ayr, Scotland; an aunt, Moira Sim, Cumbernauld, Scotland; a cousin, Leslie (Pauline) Bates, Chapeltown, Sheffield, England; two step-brothers/nephews, Alex Graham (Maeve Haran), London, England; Kenneth (Sandra) Graham, Eaglesham, Scotland; niece and nephews, Iain (Mandy) Beaton, Dunfries, Scotland; Keith (Dr. Mairead Thin) Beaton, Inverness, Scotland; Jonathan Towle (Amanda Monk), London, England; Timothy Towle (Amparo Simon), Sitges, Spain; Jennifer Bates (Robert Sutherby), Halifax; Duncan Bates (Rebecca Read), Chester; Robin Bates, Tallahassee, Florida; Daniel Bates (Laura Farina), Vancouver. She was predeceased by her first husband, Duncan Graham; her second husband, Talivaldis Bistevins; a sister, Frances Beaton; a brother, Iain Bates. Cremation has taken place. At Lesley's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Her cremated remains will be taken to Scotland. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.
