He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 244 and worked in various capacities throughout the country, eventually settling in to Maintenance Works at the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou, from which he retired in 1997. Bob's interests and hobbies were many and he invested himself in them with gusto. His kind hearted love for animals always ensured he had a furry friend nearby. He played the guitar in his early years and he was always a voracious reader for constant learning and enjoyment's sake. His time spent composing oil paintings was often combined with Bach, Mozart or Verdi playing by his side. Bob's enthusiasm for sports led him to enjoy recreational hockey, bowling, and curling in his earlier years. His intense love for golf however grew in his senior years. Over his countless days spent on the local links he accumulated 8 hole-in-one awards. His passion for the game was infectious. Young family members benefited from his deep knowledge of rules and etiquette while his golf mates were peppered with his good-spirited banter. Following cremation a visitation will take place on Monday, March 2 from 4- 6 PM, followed by a service on Tuesday, March 3 at 1PM, both in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou. The family offers their sincere appreciation to Dr. Farrell and Debbie Williams for their most excellent care, and the VON care givers especially Marci who Bob had a special fondness for.
"You are now at the 19th hole having played the game of your life!
The finest scotch, a good cigar and the best of bagpipe music await!
Now you can tee off whenever you want!"
