It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Louise (MacIntosh) Astephen, beloved mother, sister, aunt and grand aunt, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Louise was a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, former longtime resident of Pleasant Street.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Mary Catherine (MacNeil) Merritt.
In her earlier years Louise worked at the Point Edward Naval Base as a supply clerk, later at Rahey’s Grocery Store, Balah’s Ladies and Children Wear, Cameron Cleaners. She also operated Naida’s Hair Salon and worked with her husband Abe operating the Sealanes Centre. She was also a call lady with the North Sydney Fire Department for 17 years. Louise was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, especially scat, but most of all being at home spending time with her family.
Louise is survived by her son Lloyd MacIntosh, North Sydney, her sister Marie (Alfred) Henry, North Sydney, stepsons, George Astephen, Paul (Yang Yang) Astephen, stepdaughter Adele Kelly, sister-in-law Jean Merritt, North Sydney, also a number of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.Louise was predeceased by her first husband Frank MacIntosh, her second husband Abe Astephen, brothers, Michael (Winnifred) Merritt, Thomas (Jean) Merritt, Ephrem Merritt, Lloyd Merritt and Leo in infancy, by her sister Genevieve (Blowers) Gouthreau and a stepson David Astephen.
Visitation for Louise will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
