Katherine 'Cal' Jessie (Richardson) Henderson

Born In: Sydney
Born: June 5th, 1913

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: March 3rd, 2015

Quietly, with soft music, hugs and kisses, a tired soul found rest and peace.
Katherine, our Mom, “Nana” and Aunt Cal to many, passed away at Victoria Haven, Glace Bay, where she had resided since November.
Born in Sydney, June 5, 1913, she was the daughter of Alva and Ethel (Harris) Richardson, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom was a nurturer, patient and kind to all, devoted to her family. To know her was to love her. Even though Lewy Body Dementia robbed her of so much the past three years, there were still many days filled with love and laughter that will remain with us forever.
Katherine is survived by daughters, Sandra (Frank) Dunn, Sydney and Jane (Dean) Murray, Owen Sound, Ont.; sons, David (Isabelle), Stellarton and John (Carol), Caledon, Ont. Mourning the loss of their Nana are George (Sue), Carolyn, Mary, Terry, Renee (Pascal), Monique (Rob), Rhonda, Debbie (Barry), Ian and Shawn and great-grandchildren, Laurie, Shauntelle, Danielle, Gabrielle, Jacob, Jane, Matthew, Taylor, Natalie, Leanne, Kimberley, Magen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Elva's daughter, Delores Zwicker, Bridgetown, N.S.
Mom was predeceased by our Dad, George in 1990; brothers, Sid, Charles and Harris and sisters, Elva Keizer and Rita Ludgate.
There were so many people who helped Mom and the family over the course of the past three years. Longtime physician and friend, Dr. Paul Murphy (Murph, as Mom called him), the Red Cross, the caring friends from VON and City Homemakers Service who loved Mom so much and, most recently, the devoted, compassionate staff at Victoria Haven. We thank you so much for enabling us to have her home for so long and loving her when the time came for her to move. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Helen Carroll Donnelly who was there for her adopted “Nana” every step of the way. The love they shared was a joy to see, and her unflagging devotion lightened Mom’s days.
As per Mom’s wishes there will be no services. The family will host a memorial day to celebrate Mom’s life at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
For Katherine “Cal” Henderson
There’s a song you have sung your life through,
Though strife was no stranger to you,
I’ll hear it ‘till my dying day,
The love song you left us to play.
It’s all about patience and giving,
And life that was made for the living.
A shoulder to cry on, a friend to rely on,
A spirit that won’t pass away.
Sing your song to the angels,
Let them hear it as you pass their way.
The love in your heart lives forever,
It’s in all that you touched every day.
The temple that holds you grows wearier dear,
Blue eyes dim, ears straining to hear.
Thoughts flee like dry leaves and go where they please,
Timeless days with no shortage of tears.
It’s all about family and friendships
You’ve held close over 100 years.
A treasure on earth that started at birth,
And will end with no worries or fears.
