Dolly Mackin

Passed on: February 28th, 2015

Dolly Mae Mackin (nee Simpson)
January 25, 1933 – February 28, 2015
On February 28, Heaven gained a special Angel. Dolly was predeceased by her parents Carry and George Simpson, her husband Roger Mackin, brothers Archie, Charlie, and Cliff Simpson, sister-in-law Frances Simpson and her daughter Diane Edwards. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Doug (Heather) Edwards, Greg (Janice) Edwards, and daughter Tracey Edwards; four grandchildren she adored: Ashley, Kyle (Kristen), Alexis (Ryan), Amelia (Logan); and special great-granddaughter Emma; sisters-in-law Marion Simpson, and Agnes Simpson; and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Even as a young woman Dolly was involved with the church. If you asked when she began to have “faith” she would say she doesn’t remember not having faith. She was involved in the community of Aneroid, including the Legion Auxiliary, 4-H, and many groups in the church. She married her first husband Ed Edwards in 1952 and they divorced in 1969. She raised four children, and even as a single parent she gave her time to her community. Dolly was part of the group who initiated the Special Olympics in Sask. She taught special needs children at John Chisholm School for 13 years. She married the love of her life when she turned 40 and would say life really did begin at “40”. Her husband Roger treated her like a queen. She credited their strong marriage to the fact they had God in their lives. She went back to university to finish her teaching degree and taught grade 3 at Westmount School until her retirement. She was very active in St. Andrew’s United Church with many groups. Dolly and Roger travelled for many years following retirement. Dolly loved playing golf and bridge, cooking, sewing, reading, and serving others. She always said “stuff” is nice but its people and feelings that were really important. Dolly was caring, compassionate, enthusiastic, and loved everyone unconditionally, especially her family. She will be missed dearly, and never forgotten. The Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St.E., Moose Jaw on Saturday March 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Jim Tenford will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorial donations can be made to the Sask. Association for Community Living, Box 1414, Moose Jaw, S6H 4R3. In living memory of Dolly, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
