Merrial Froslie

Passed on: March 16th, 2015

FROSLIE: Merrial (nee Duncan) a lifelong resident of Neville Sk. passed away in the Cypress Regional Hospital on March 16, 2015 with her family by her side. Merrial was born on March 25, 1920 at the Duncan Homestead northeast of Neville. She was the fifth child born to Selina and Edward Duncan. When Merrial was four years old the family moved to the current Spring Valley Duncan farm. She attended Neville School and after graduating from Grade twelve she did domestic work in Rosetown and for several families in the Neville area. In 1943 she and Lars were married. They lived on the Froslie family farm where they raised five children. Merrial had a great love of farming and worked diligently tending the animals, helping in the field, and had a huge garden. She was a very industrious quilter using her own sheered sheep wool for the batting. She was an excellent seamstress sewing for her family and many others. What a tremendous cook! Known for her baking and Norwegian cuisine especially lefse and krumkake which she continued to make until her recent passing. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, playing cards, cross-country skiing, curling, crocheting and gardening. Merrial was a proud Life Member of the Neville Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and also a member of the Branch. She volunteered in Neville as a member of the United Church, canvassing for United Way and as a squad worker for Neville Rec Board. Lars and Merrial moved into Neville in the late 80's where she continued to enjoy gardening and their farm. In 2012 Merrial moved to the Riviera Retirement Home and the fall of 2014 she moved to Cypress House. She loved to travel and the trip to Scotland and Ireland with her siblings was a great highlight in her life. Family and friends were very important to her. Merrial was a very generous, caring, individual with a great sense of humour; she had great strength and courage that shone throughout her life even after losing her son and two daughters. Merrial is survived by her son Morris (Jacelyn) grandsons Dustan and Jesse; daughter Sonya (Dan) Miller, grandsons Ryan (Shannon), Rhett (Amber), Regan (Tara), Reginald (Hilary) and three great grand daughters; sister Shirley Dyck, brother Wayne (Betty Anne) Duncan and numerous nieces and nephews.
