William Hogg

Hogg, William (Billy) Edward, age 70 of the Beaver Flat District, east of Stewart Valley, Sask., passed away March 18, 2015 at the family farm (as he wished) surrounded by his family. Billy was born in Swift Current, Sask. to Ernest and Doris Hogg on September 18, 1944. A private family funeral was held at the family farm Saturday March 28, 2015 at 11"00. Billy's cremated ashes will remain on the family farm. A Time of Remembrance was held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Stewart Valley Community Center. Honorary pallbearers were Billy's grandchildren-Brandon Wall, Taylor Wall, Hunter Vance, Alexandra Vance, Sydney Hogg and Dylan Hogg. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Gloria, 3 children-daughter Pamela (Brent) Wall, their children Brandon and Taylor, daughter Nicole (Scott) Vance, their children Hunter and Alexandra and son Kelly (Sue) Hogg, their children Sydney and Dylan. Sister Kathy (Doug) Hesch and sister-in-law Terry (Mark) Carlson and God son Darren Peters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Billy was predeceased by his father Ernest Hogg 1982 and mother Doris Hogg 1992, father-in-law Clarence Schmiess 2006 and mother-in-law Irene Schmiess 2006. Billy attended school at Beaver Flat, Hovdestad and Stewart Valley and received his Diploma of Vocational Agriculture in 1963 from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Upon convocation at the U of S he returned home to farm and ranch with his father. Billy married Gloria Schmiess Nov. 4, 1967 in Swift Current. They worked side by side over the years sharing their love of the land. In 1997, Billy and Gloria's son Kelly joined them making this the 4th generation to farm the land. Billy was a member of the Stewart Valley Scouts and Beaver Flat 4-H Club. He went on to become a cub leader for the Scouts as well as a leader for the Golden Acres and North Star 4-H Clubs. Billy took great pleasure in his children and grandchildren. He was proud of all their accomplishments and will miss them dearly. Billy was an avid toy tractor collector which led him throughout the prairie provinces to many shows to display his collection. His interest developed into restoration of full size antique tractors. As his collection of antique tractors grew he began showing these tractors as well. Billy was intrigued by Oliver tractors as these were the ones he first learned to drive. As his health began to fail and could not attend tractor shows, he decided to build an antique tractor museum on the family farm. He took pride in showcasing his tractor collection to his family and friends. Donations may be made to the Regina Cancer Patient Lodge, 4104 Dewdney Ave., Regina, Sask. S4T 1A3.
