Born January 27, 1924 in Ridout, Ontario, a whistle stop on the CPR, Adrien had a full and varied life. As a member of the elite 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in WW II, he served his country for three and a half years overseas, including the Battle of the Bulge. Near the end of the war, Adrien parachuted directly into Nazi Germany several times, and was proud to have served his country well.
After working in Industrial Refrigeration for many years, Adrien joined the Canadian Executive Service Organization and completed several volunteer projects in Costa Rica, Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador and Guyana. He was passionate about hiking, canoeing and travelling. In later years he developed a passion for rug hooking. Adrien will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his sense of humour, and his kind heart.
Many thanks to Adrien and Norma's friend and caregiver, Colette Tremblay, for being there for them both to the very end, and to Norma's son, Paul McKenzie (Gloria), for his love and support of Adrien in his last days. Thank you also to the staff at the QEH and The Mount for the wonderful care and support they have given Norma and Adrien and their family.
Adrien is resting at the Belvedere Funeral Home in Charlottetown. A private family celebration of Adrien and Norma's lives will follow.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the QEH, in Adrien's memory, will be gratefully accepted.
