It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ronald Francis 'Rannie' MacDonald, 91, of New Waterford on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Boston, Mass., he was a son of the late Neil R. and Mary (MacPhee) MacDonald.
Rannie was a member of the former St. Agnes Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. He was a coal miner for over 30 years and drove taxi for Town Taxi in New Waterford. Rannie was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, New Waterford. Rannie enjoyed carpentry and, as a labour of love, completely rebuilt his daughters' homes where they presently reside. He was a quiet, gentle man and a great dad who never raised his voice and loved his family dearly. He will be missed by all.
Surviving are his children, Anna (Connie) MacSween, Marion Lewis, Donna MacDonald, Wayne (Maureen) MacDonald, all of New Waterford, Neil (Gabi) MacDonald, Germany; sister Jenny Hickey, Dominion; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Rannie was predeceased by his wife, Maymie (MacLean), a son, Ronald, sisters, Evelyn, Chris, Florence, and Anna, brother Malcolm, son-in-law, Bill Lewis.
Visitation will be held today (Monday, March 30, 2015),from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, March 31 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating and Father Ray Huntley concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
