It is with great sadness and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Murdock of Baddeck, N.S., on Thursday, March 26, 2015, with family at his side.
Born in Red Head on Jan. 21, 1934, to the late J.K and Lexina (MacIver) Morrison. Murdock will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Gloria (Ross); sons, Kimball (Marie), Halifax, Steven (Lisa), Halifax; four grandchildren, Hudson, Payton, Josh and Oliver. He is also survived by sisters, Kathleen (Eric Carmichael) Boston, Jacqueline Cantwell, Sydney Mines, Mable Best, Ingonish; brother Fraser, Boston; sisters-in-law, Martha Morrison, Baddeck, Pearl Morrison, Joanne Morrison, Boston and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Harold, Donnie, Henry, Russell and one sister Marie (MacRae), two nephews, John MacRae and Kenneth MacIver and two sisters-in-law, Ann Morrison and Marilyn MacIver.
He was an avid gardener, working 24 years at the Alexander Graham Bell Estate, Beinn Bhreagh followed by 22 years at the Bell Museum, Baddeck.
Murdock loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, sports and socializing occupied many of his hours. He was active in the community being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Bras d’Or Yacht Club and a former member of the Baddeck Fire Department. Volunteering to better his community was one of his great passions.
He was an adherent of Greenwood United Church.
At his request cremation has taken place. A graveyard service at Highland Cemetery will take place at a later date followed by the celebration of his life.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, palliative care nurse Mary MacLeod, Dr. Ritter and special thanks to Dr. R. Genge.
As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to BYC Junior Sailing program or charity of one’s choice.
