Butler, Kingsley Paul "King" - Age 73 of Wolfville, passed away April 12, at home. Born on July 30, 1941 in Strathroy, Ontario, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret (Pedden) Butler. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Ruth (Allen) and his daughters, Wendy (Tim Arsenault) of Mahone Bay and Stephanie (Howard Roode) of Hilden; grandson, Jacob Arsenault; brother, Brian (Marlene) Butler of Strathroy, Ontario and brother-in-law, Reg (Carol) Allen of Sarnia, Ontario. King was a man with a multitude of passions and he threw himself head first into all of his hobbies. Some of his interests over the years included stamp collecting, model railways and airplanes, paper models, counted cross stitch, show rabbits, tropical fish, exotic birds and genealogy. He was well known for his rhododendron beds and the thousands of daffodils that lined his driveway every spring. In retirement he built a greenhouse to house his orchids, cacti, and any other unusual plants he could find. King graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BSc and then did graduate work in Entomology at MacDonald College in Montreal where he developed his enthusiasm for computers. He joined the Entomology section of the Kentville Research Station in 1967 and was instrumental in introducing computer technology there. During this time he bought a farm in the Gasperau Valley and had a large flock of sheep and was the first in Nova Scotia to grow vegetables on plastic mulch with row covers. In the late 70's he co-founded Mandala Systems, a custom software company. He retired in 2001 and devoted himself to his hobbies. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Kentville. Friends and family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust or a charity of your choice. On line inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
