Mary Elizabeth 'Isabel' Beaton

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: April 16th, 2015

Isabel entered eternal life on April 16, 2015. Born in Harbour View, Inverness County she was the daughter of Murdock and Mary Christina (MacDonnell) Beaton.
Isabel started her formal education in her local one-room school, advanced to Port Hood Convent and Academy becoming Cape Breton’s champion debater. During World War II she cared for the Queen Ann’s Inn, Halifax, the estate of her brother Donnie after which she devoted her life to private nursing in New York. Generously she gave up city life, friends, and work to attend her ageing parents at home.
Always a student she learned to read music and play the violin in her mid-eighties mastering “Dark Island”. In a sense of good humour, deep faith, and compassion Isabel showed hospitality to one and all.
Isabel is survived by two younger sisters, Christine, CND, Sydney, and Lillian (Steve) Csordas, Port Hope, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Mary A. and Margaret Beaton, several loving nieces, nephews, and grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by siblings, Florence, CND, Joseph (Betty), Donald, Cyril (Kathleen), Wilfred, and Philomena (John).
Special gratitude to all who helped Isabel in her last years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 20 in Port Hood Funeral Home.
