Longtin: Ida Irma Longtin, age 87, of Swift Current passed away April 11, 2015 at the Swift Current Care Centre. A Prayer Service was held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home. The Mass Service was held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 17, 2015 from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Richard Jasiak M.S.F. officiating. The organist was Yolande Gorrill accompanied by the Catholic Church Choir. The Ushers were Travis Rouse and Devin Olsen. The Pallbearers were Fred Louth, Rustin Longtin, Leslie Backstrom, Terrence Olsen, Kendall Longtin and Scott Richardson. The interment service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Ida is survived by her five children; Diane (Orville) Louth, Denis (Darlene) Longtin, Jacqueline (Monte) Backstrom, Betty (Rick) Rouse and Leonard (Cathy) Longtin: 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sr Aline Bertrand and Alice Trembley; sisters-in-law Elaine, Rolande, Mabel and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Theophane and Laura Bertrand; husband Herve Longtin; daughter Joanne in infancy; brothers Clement, Leonard, Theodore, Richard, Adrien, and Roland; sister Irene; son-in-law Martin Olsen and her parents-in-law Albani and Antoinette Longtin. Ida was born in Ponteix, Sk. on January 17, 1928. She attended school in Ponteix and then college in Gravelbourg and Moose Jaw. She was united in marriage to Herve Longtin on November 6, 1951 in Ponteix. Ida taught at several school including Gouverneur, Royer, Levi, Admiral, Simmie Hutterite Colony and the Community College in Swift Current. Ida was a member of the C.W.L. for sixty years and was also involved with Development and Peace, Social Justice, Prolife and on Parish Council at St Anne's in Lac Pelletier. In her spare time, Ida enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, reading and always keeping up with current affairs. She loved to cook for her family and neighbors. She took pride in being involved in church activities, especially in the planning and rebuilding of St. Anne's Church. In later years, she made quilts for the newcomers in Swift Current. She was a very thrifty, organized person, always eager to listen and learn more about her families work and interests. In Ida's memory, memorial donation may be made to Prolife, # 203 12 Cheadle St W., Swift Current, Sk. S9H 0A9. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
