It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geraldine (Hogan) Black on Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Gerry was born in New Victoria, N.S. on May 27, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Eliza (Sheppard) Hogan.
She was a prominent resident of “the Lake” in New Victoria, before moving to Topshee Drive, in Sydney where she lived for 54 years. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends, especially took great pleasure in a good game of bingo.
Geraldine is survived by her brother Lloyd 'Muzzy' (Theresa), sister, Marjorie (Bobby) Aucoin, and special nephew, John Hillier (Cher). Also left to mourn are sisters-in-law, Donna Burke and Pauline Hogan, brother-in-law, John Pegg. Gerry will also be greatly missed by her special grandnephew, Kyle Hutt, special grand nieces, Leah Hillier and Taryn Hillier along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Lorraine, Sue, Fran, Mary 'Booie' and brothers, Mikey, Clarence 'Boisey' and Francis in infancy.
At this time, the family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in all units of the C.B. Regional Hospital, the Palliative Home Care staff and the VON for all providing Gerry with compassionate care and attention during her illness. Also thanks to Mr. Tom MacNeil of the cancer centre for his help and concern. We must also acknowledge all of Geraldine’s friends and neighbours in the Topshee Drive area.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. A reception to follow in the funeral home.
Burial to take place at a later date, where Gerry will join her parents in New Victoria for her final resting place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honour to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the N.S. Lung Association.
Rest in Peace, dear Gerry, you are a star in the sky now.
