EAST RIVER ST. MARY'S – Robert Alexander “Bobbie” Fraser, 82, East River St. Mary's, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Antigonish on December 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Farley and Margaret (Jordan) Fraser.
Bobby worked all his life in trucking and forestry. He had a strong work ethic. Also worked for twenty years, to the age of 79, as a fire tower technician in Eden Lake. This was a job that he loved.
He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather to his five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Family was the most important thing in his life. He was known for his sense of humour and his ability to make people laugh. He passed this gift on to his children and grandchildren. Bobby was an avid talker and loved to tell old stories over and over again. He was also a great bluegrass historian and lover of the music. This was evident in the family home. He loved to be filled with the "high lonesome sound" of bluegrass music. This was something else he passed on to others in the family.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and best friend, Peggy (Jack) and his cherished children: daughter, Debbie (Bob) Younker, Whitehorse, Yukon; his sons, Danny (Deana), East River St. Mary's; Robbie (Shannon), Porter's Lake; Randy (Allie), Dartmouth; daughter, Becky Peace, Yarmouth. He was Grampie to his seven beautiful grandchildren: Amanda Younker, Emily (Ammon) Hoefs, Charmaine Fraser (Richard), Josh (Sarah) Fraser, Molly Fraser (Adam), Nolan Fraser, Jada Fraser; Great Bobbie to precious great-grandsons, Nathan and Hank Fraser; Shannon's children, MacKenzie and Cooper; Allie's children, Olivia and Chelsea; beloved sister, Juanita (Carl) MacGrath; sister-in-laws, Mackie, Jackie, and Evelyn; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitor’s 1-2:50 p.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where the funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Derek Elsworth presiding.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made in Bobbie’s memory to Hope for Wildlife or the IWK Health Centre Charitable Foundation.
