LAITE
John
76, passed away at home on Apr. 19th, 2015, less than three months after the passing of his beloved wife, Dorothy. Born in St. John's and lost his father before his first birthday, John grew up with his mother and aunts and spent several of his later teenage years in the military at Camp Borden, ON. He later went on to work with young offenders at the Shawbridge Boy's Farm in Quebec, while acquiring his brown belt in Judo. He then returned to St. John's where he again worked with young offenders at the Waterford Bridge Boys Home. In the early 70's, John became a social worker and acting probation officer, and eventually became one of the province's earliest suicide prevention workers. He took great pride in his work and never sacrificed his integrity to get ahead. John would give friend or family his last dime, and believed humor was one of life's necessities. He loved his family dearly, also the woods and his hunting trips, the New York Rangers and Chev cars. He is predeceased by parents John Laite and Mary Deer. Survived by his sons, John and Mark, daughter Cheryl, son in law, Dan, best friend and cousin Jack Kavanagh, and many other cousins, extended family and good friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation Friday April 24th 7-9pm and Saturday, April 25th from 10am to 2pm. Funeral Services will follow in the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 2:30pm. Inurnment will then take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Rd.
