Laura Margaret Mair (nee King)

At Whisperwood Villa on Thursday, April 23, 2015 of Laura Margaret Mair (nee King), Charlottetown, age 84 years.
Loving mother of Bart Mair (Lisa) of Perkinsville, Vermont; Jana Lillies (Darren), Calgary, Alberta and “Lolly” to granddaughter Lauren Mair of Vermont. She will be sadly missed by her brother, Colin King (Josephine) of Ottawa, Ontario, her sister, Betty Howatt (Everett) of Tryon, by brothers and sisters-in-law, by her nieces and nephew and by her many friends.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim B. Mair, by her parents, Arthur and May King, by her younger brother, Arthur King, and older sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Ralph Burdett.
Laura was born and received her early education in Charlottetown and later at Carleton University, Ottawa. She had a wide range of interests and was not afraid of challenges; this was demonstrated by the variety of jobs she undertook during her work career - in journalism, public relations, energy conservation and literacy. This was also reflected by her involvement and leadership in many volunteer organizations, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, Friends of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, the Zonta Club of Charlottetown, Project LOVE and the Women’s Probus Club of Charlottetown. She received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee medal in 1977 in recognition of her contribution to her Island community. Music was also a very important part of her life and she was a member of the Confederation Singers for many years and a supporter of the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra.
There will be no visitation or flowers by Laura’s request. A service of “Music and Meditation” will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. A private committal service will be held at a later in St. David’s Church Cemetery, Georgetown.
Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to A.A. MacDonald Memorial Gardens, Georgetown.
