Mary Jeneta Hollohan (Doucette) Mary Jeneta Hollohan (Doucette)

Born: December 20th, 1928

Passed on: April 22nd, 2015

Our precious Mary passed away peacefully at 86 years of age with her children at her side.
Mary is survived by her children, Sean (Dee Dee), Sharon (John), Colleen (Peter) and her daughter-in-law, Paula. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, Liam, Evan, Sara, Colin, Katie, Laura, Shannon, Adam, Michael, David, Andrew, Blair and Ben and three great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Gordon and Gavin. She is also survived by her three sisters, Katie, Annie and Norene, all of whom spent special time with Mary just prior to her passing. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron; son, Brian; parents John and Nora; brothers, Johnnie and James; father-in-law, Patrick and mother-in-law, Mary-Ellen.
Mary was born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She graduated from St. Anne’s High School in 1946 and from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Mary was a beautiful, intelligent woman. Upon meeting, Ron was immediately smitten with Mary. After a two year courtship they were married on August 5, 1952. They were a perfect match and worshiped each other; they were truly the love of each other’s life. Ron and Mary celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2014. Mary was the quintessential partner supporting Ron in his every endeavor including a hiatus in her nursing career to raise their four children. Upon returning to nursing Mary worked as a nursing instructor where she trained, among countless others, her sister, Norene. She then worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital on the surgical ward and spent the last 15 years of her career as a day supervisor. She was very proud of her nursing career and the care she so competently and compassionately provided to countless patients. Mary and Ron moved to Alberta in 1991. Mary loved to scrapbook. This hobby was an extension of her devotion to family, past and present. She spent many hours with family members and friends archiving memories in beautiful albums. She also enjoyed golf and bridge, and was a devoted fan of the Edmonton Oilers! Mary was such a special wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Misericordia Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Mary.
