Passed on: April 30th, 2015

With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Christine 'Sister' MacDonald, 79, of Sydney Mines, on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Bradley) Howell. She was a member of Holy Family parish, Sydney Mines.
Mom was a quiet, compassionate, and very thankful person. She started at a young age, working as a nurses’ assistant at Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines. She met the love of her life, Edward MacDonald, her husband for 54 years, and raised five children. Throughout the years, Mom always loved a good game of Bingo, and had many Bingo buddies. They enjoyed each other’s company so much. Mom also worked for the Stella Maris Rest Home for several years. This was her passion; caring for the residents, as she did for her family.
This would come full circle for our Mom, for the love and compassion came back to her from her close family at the Northside Guest Home. She couldn’t wait to get back there. She also got to spend a couple of years at the guest home with two of her sisters, whose company she really cherished.
There is a void in my heart today. It is hard to find the words to say. I will miss our talks, our cups of tea, your love, your smile that encourage me, but most of all I’m going to miss you, Mom.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Edward (Brenda) and Dave (Kim); daughters, Carolyn, Colleen and Glenda. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Ed Jr. (Justine), Matthew, Daniel, DJ, Brandon, Christopher, Kim, Marjorie and Donald; great-grandchildren, Dwayne, Emily, Brooklyn, Edward, Cody and Aubree; brothers William, Gordon (Eleanor) and Kenny.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Ed MacDonald; brothers, James, Nick and Archie and sisters, Dolores, Lillian and Linda.
Special thanks to Dr. O’Grady and Dr. Ritter, Catherine, the staff at 5 East, Northside General, Northside Home Care, all staff at the Northside Guest Home and the Miner’s Manor; for taking such care of our mother, and having such compassion for her – you truly are part of our family.
Come share the memories and celebrate the life of Marjorie Christine MacDonald with her family on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A Mass to celebrate her life will take place on Monday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. The burial will take place at a later date.
Donations in Marjorie’s memory may be made to the Northside Palliative Care Society.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
A Mother’s love’s a blessing
No matter where you roam
Keep her while she’s living
You’ll miss her when she’s gone
Love her as in childhood
Though feeble, old and grey
For you’ll never miss a mother’s love
‘til she’s buried beneath the clay.
