It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved stepmother, grandmother and great-grandmother Sadie Jane Wong, age 95, on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Northwood Manor, Halifax, N.S.
Sadie was born in Orangedale East, Inverness County, on March 27, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William Richard and Hazel (Yonker) Bennett.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney for 61 years. She was the co-owner of Wong’s Café in North Sydney from 1954-82.
Sadie is survived by her stepdaughters, Yvonne (Mrs. David Kong) and Susan (Mrs. Pak Ma), both of Vancouver, B.C.; three grandchildren, David Kong, Ottawa, James 'Jimmy' Kong, Dartmouth, Peter Kong, Vancouver; four great-grandchildren, Carissa, Jarrett and Malia, Dartmouth, Michelle, Ottawa and two great-great-grandchildren, Summer and Oakley, both of Dartmouth.
Sadie was predeceased by her husband Thomas Wong, her sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Brent Merlin), Christine (Mrs. Roland Perry), Ida (Mrs. Arnold Cull), Evelyn and Catherine, her brothers, William Richard Bennett and Donald Louis Bennett.
Visitation for Sadie will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. Nancy Ritchie officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Vancouver at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
