MacBurnie, Marjorie Barbara, Truro

Passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, May 4th, 2015, ending her courageous battle with Alzheimers. Born in Nottingham, England, August 21st, 1921. Daughter of Harold and Florence (Shepherd) Poole. Barbara joined the Land Army, England in 1939, during WWII and met our father, George, while he was stationed in England with the Canadian Army and married on August 29th, 1945, arriving in Canada at Pier 21 on July 15th, 1946, aboard the Queen Mary. Mom became a proud Canadian travelling back to England for visits when she could. Mom enjoyed family gatherings, bowling, playing cards, TV Bingo with her friends and many trips with her family. Barbara was a member of the War Brides Association and Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 26, Truro. Survived by daughters, Carolyn (Wayne) Roy, Valley, Valerie (Herbert) Corbett, Nuttby, Irene (Randy) Matheson, Newport, Christine Riddle, Orangeville, Ontario, Ellen (Mark) Spicer, Greenfield; sons, Robert (Harriett), Wellington, PEI, Jeffery (Kathleen), Timberlea, Daniel (Elaine), Truro, Phillip (Trudy), North River, David, Truro, Steven (Melanie), North Vancouver, British Columbia; 26 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pearl Wilson, Belmont; brother-in-law, Calvin Peppard, Belmont; sisters-in-law, Eileen, Maureen, and Rosemary, Nottingham, England. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, George Robert MacBurnie in April 1983; her brothers, Jack, Bill, and Jim Poole; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Crowe and Ellen Burdette. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6 from 6-8 p.m. with funeral service on Thursday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. with a Legion Ladies Auxiliary Tribute included within the service, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Family flowers only. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice. There will be a private family burial.
