Katherine 'Kaye' Skinner

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: May 3rd, 2015

Another Angel received her wings when God chose to call our much loved 'Auntie Kaye' home. Kaye passed away at the Cove Guest Home on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in her 97th year.
Known as 'Auntie Kaye' to most, she was born in Glace Bay to the late Amelia (Kelly) and James Hurley.
In her younger years, Kaye had hoped to become a nurse, but had to give up that dream to care for younger siblings when her mother took sick.
A very energetic person, Kaye loved to walk, bake and do her 'Find A Word' puzzle books. She logged many miles walking back and forth between Glace Bay and New Aberdeen. No one, who visited Auntie Kaye ever left without tasting her delicious desserts. Auntie Kaye had a wonderful sense of humour and she was not afraid to speak her mind.
She was a very religious person and was greatly saddened with the closure of her beloved St. John The Baptist Church. She had a daily ritual of prayers, where she prayed for one and all.
Kaye and her late husband Bert, worked for New Method Dry Cleaners for many years before opening their own business in New Aberdeen. When fire destroyed the original business, they later reopened and remained in business until their retirement years.
Kaye is survived by her sister, Teresa Poirier, Seaview Manor; her stepson, Michael (Sylvia); four step-grandchildren, Sandra, Michael David, Roy, Brian; seven step-great-grandchildren; stepdaughter-in-law, Mary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Burford Sr., stepson, Burford Jr. and stepdaughter-in-law, Anne. Also, Kaye was predeceased by her sisters, Mary (George) Musial, Marie, in infancy, brothers, Jimmy (Jenny) Hurley, Johnny (Frances) Hurley, Martin Hurley and brother-in-law, Frye Poirier, nephew Jimmy Hurley.
Visitation for Kaye will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating.
