Peter Saab

SAAB, PETER KYLE
It is with hearts filled with sadness that the family of Peter Kyle Saab announces his passing, which occurred on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on March 2, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph Peter and Blanche “Bonnie” Saab.
Peter followed in the steps of his father and joined the Saint John Fire Department on January 21, 1980, where he worked most of his career on the rescue squad and in 2008 he was promoted to District Fire Chief. He was a member of both the Canadian and New Brunswick Associations of Fire Chiefs. Peter was named the “Fire Fighter of the Year” in 1993 and was a recipient of the “Rescue Commendation”, which was an award for resourcefulness and courage in performing an act of personal bravery. He also received the “Most Venerable Order of The Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem” for the resuscitation of 3 year old, Sean Cook.
In 1982 Peter, along with his brothers in business, Michael, Andrew and Jim Steeves continued the legacy of the water well-drilling company E.R. Steeves Ltd., created by their fathers in 1967.
Peter was an outdoorsman and was an avid fisherman, hunter and ATV’er who leaves behind many tales of adventures he shared with his hunting buddies. He loved spending time at The Three Bears Campground. Peter was a kind and generous man who always extended a helping hand.
Family was everything to Peter and he leaves behind the blended family that he brought together with his partner, Lana; children, Ashley (Mark) Saab-Harris, Emily Saab, Brittany Saab, Caitlin Robertson, Jordon Robertson; sisters, Lana (Dennis) Graves and their children Jonathan and Andrea, Tracey (Dan) Hasler and their child Darcy; special aunt, Beulah; many cherished cousins, fire fighter family, neighbours and friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his infant sister, Brenda Anne Saab.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424 with visiting on Thursday, May 7 and and Friday, May 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 5:30 to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 10:00 AM from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
