The remarkable life of Raymond Peter Jessome, age 74, came to a peaceful end surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born on May 18, 1940 in Bras d’Or, he was the precious son of the late Marshall and Thelma (Wilson) Jessome.
Dad was a wonderful storyteller with an infectious laugh, a master of many talents, and a great friend to many. His family was his greatest accomplishment with his beautiful 'Bebby' by his side. He took great pride in the athletic and academic accomplishments of his grandchildren and Poppy would always have a little surprise in his pocket to brighten their day.
An industrious man, dad could put his hand to anything and took great pleasure passing on his knowledge to those around him. He sailed the Great Lakes, worked as a carpenter with Maritime Builders, was a carpet installer for Woolco and was also employed with Moores Electric in his early years. He was an entrepreneur owning the Fleur de Lis Tavern in L’Ardoise in the 1980s. A self-taught master of music, our home was filled with his joyful tinkerings on the piano and accordion. More recently his passion for genealogy brought countless hours of enjoyment and new found friendships.
He is survived by his best friend of 47 years, Beverly (Halliday) Jessome; his children, Wanda Andrea (Brian), Sydney Mines, Juanita Jenkins (Kevin), Georges River, Troy (Sherry), Georges River, and Tanya (James Tremblett), Georges River. He will be greatly missed by his beautiful grandchildren, Ashley, Kristen, Jaymee, Laura Jayne, Parker, Meghan, Pete, Mary Kate, Jacob and Alison and his little companion Maddie. Also surviving are his sisters, Bernice Spicer (William), Halifax, Pamela Colburn (Carl), Bras d’Or, and Iris Jessome, Halifax, his uncle Thomas Wilson (Marjorie), New Waterford and numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Richard (Del Jessome), niece Corrina Jessome and nephew William Jessome and numerous uncles and aunts.
Visitation for Raymond will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial at a later date in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Memorial donations may be made to the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, or a charity of choice.
