It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kevin ‘Neuf’ Gerard Murphy at the age of 57 on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Kevin was the son of Annie (Roach) Murphy and the late Burton Murphy.
He was a son, a father, a husband, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. For anyone who knew Neuf, he was either, whistling, smiling, pacing or the legs were going a mile a minute.
Kevin enjoyed a good game of golf, poker and rousing game of tarabish. He was a former Devco employee and member of the Miner’s Co-op. He finished his career at Syncrude as a Millwright.
He is survived by his mother, Annie Murphy; daughters, Jacqueline Lewis (Nash Currie), Glace Bay, Lynette Murphy, Fort McMurray; his son, Jason Pond, Fort McMurray; the light of his life, Linda Donovan McNeil, Glace Bay; his sisters, Rosita LaCroix (Paul), Lethbridge, Elizabeth ‘Weewee’ AuCoin (Byron ‘Marco’), Reserve Mines, Marilyn Morrison (Rick), Calgary, Elaine McInnis (Ed), Sydney, Anne Stubbert (Robert), Fort McMurray, Fran Murphy (Robert Warcop), Reserve Mines,;his brothers, Burton ‘Binkey’ Murphy (Marie), Reserve Mines, and David Murphy (Julie), Fort McMurray.
He was known as poppy to his grandchildren, Brooklynn, Aislynn and Landon; his godson, Trent Warcop; stepdaughters, Anne Marie and Courtney McNeil. Also surviving are his in-laws, Brenda and John D. Poirier, Karen and Cecil MacNeil, Eia and Bart Boutilier, Duba and Danny MacKay, Bobby and Mary Donovan, Donnie and Marilyn Donovan.
Besides his father, Kevin was predeceased by his brothers, Burton Jr. and Gary, his paternal grandparents, James and Emma (Murphy) MacDonald and his maternal grandparents, Mary Ellen and Dave Roach.
Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Friday at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
