Jessie Krahn

Jessie Krahn, age 91, of McMahon, SK, passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK in the early morning of Wednesday, May 6, 2015, with Wanda and Elaine by her side. Mom was born on November 14, 1923, in the McMahon district, the youngest of six children born to Abraham & Helena Knelsen. She grew up on the farm and attended the Iris School for eight years. Mom learned to work at an early age. One story she would tell is how, when only nine years old, she would haul a wagon-load of wheat with a team of horses to the elevator in McMahon. Even now, she still had her driver’s license to pick up the mail and go to church. On November 24, 1946, mom married George Krahn at Rhinefeldt, SK and they moved to the farm in Rosenort, where she resided for 68 years, until two months before her passing. It was there that they raised their three children, Kelvin, Wanda, and Dale. Some of the things mom enjoyed included — milking cows (she shipped cream till the creamery in Swift Current closed), gardening (even last summer), canning, cooking, making blankets and rugs. Grandchildren were important to her — making rollkuchen and wareniki with them, attending their graduation ceremonies (as far away as Houston, Texas), visiting them in their homes (she travelled to Whitehorse numerous times). Her faith was also very important to her. She was proud to be a charter member of the Christian Fellowship Church of Rhineland where she attended faithfully, including participating in the last annual meeting. She greatly enjoyed teaching the Beginner class for over 30 years. Mom is survived by her son, Kelvin (Elaine) Krahn of McMahon and their children: Jared (Stacey) Krahn along with Zaylah and Macaiah of Saskatoon, Janelle Krahn of Swift Current, and Heather (Paul) Durie of Moose Jaw; her daughter, Wanda Olfert of McMahon and her children: Korvin Olfert along with Bianca and Sophia of Swift Current, Karalee (David) Johnson along with Kaylee, Alan, Kenan and Dathan of Whitehorse, Yukon, Kamrin (Sandi) Olfert along with Alexandria, Benjamin, and Samuel of Regina, and Kimberlee (Nicholas) Koltun along with Danika of Saskatoon; in-laws, Susie Knelsen, Susanna Driedger, Bernard Krahn, Matilda Krahn, Rochelle Krahn, Peter and Helen Wieler, Gertie Krahn; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jeffrey Krahn, in 1982; her husband, George, in 1985; her son-in-law, Arthur Olfert, in 2011; her son, Dale, in 2013; all of her siblings, Helen Bueckert, Abe Knelsen, Mary Olfert, John Knelsen, Jake Knelsen; and by many in-laws. She is now rejoicing with her Saviour whom she loved and served. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15.
The Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Christian Fellowship Church, Rhineland, SK with Pastor Randall Krahn and Pastor Dwayne Easton officiating. The pianist for the service was Faith Krahn. “How Great Thou Art”, “Rock of Ages”, “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”, “Shall We Gather at the River” and “I Need Thee Every Hour” were sung by the congregation. Tributes were shared by John Kehler on behalf of the grandchildren. Special music was brought by great-granddaughters, Bianca, Sophia and Alexandria Olfert singing, “I’ll Fly Away” and by Dwayne, Rhonda and Kadin Easton singing, “Beulah Land”. The ushers in the church were Harry Friesen and Gordon Peters. The Interment Service was held at the Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery with the following nephews serving as pallbearers, Gordon Bueckert, Bob Krahn, Tom Krahn, Lester Olfert, Gordon Knelsen and Tim Knelsen. In memory of Jessie Krahn, donations made to the Gideons International would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
