Philip  Stevens

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Ellsworth Reginal Stevens, age 83, husband, father and grandfather. He left us peacefully surrounded by his family, and the exceptional medical staff on the 2nd floor at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on May 16, 2015.
He was the son of the late Murray and Viola Stevens of Pugwash River, NS. Philip was a long time resident of Amherst where he owned and operated Orbit Insurance Services where he worked with his family by his side until his retirement.
He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. Philip enjoyed bluegrass and country music, and for many years took part in entertaining at various music events and seniors’ homes throughout the county.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Josie, his two wonderful daughters Juanita (John) Boyle and Sue (Ross) Hunter and his four grandsons Jacob, Joel, Ryan and Corey for whom he held great pride. He is also survived by his sister Vivian (Nelson) Whitman, and three brothers Lloyd, Melvin and Emmerson, along with many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Philip was predeceased by his parents Murray and Viola Stevens, sisters Bertha, Louise, Jean and Phyllis, and brothers Elmer, Harvey, Cyrus, Percy and Otis.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS, (902-667-8777) with visitation Thursday, May 21st from 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 22nd at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish Church with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Reception to follow at the Holy Family Parish Hall.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Parish church organ fund or the Amherst Relay For Life.
