David Sweet

Passed in: Windsor, Canada
Passed on: May 17th, 2015

DAVID EDWIN SWEET, Windsor and Falmouth NS. On Sunday morning, May 17, Dave died peacefully at home in his favourite chair at the age of seventy-five. He was the good husband of Marilyn J. (Fry) Sweet for forty-five years, and the proud father of Elizabeth Sweet Hammond (Greg) of Seabright, Matthew Sweet of Banff, and Benjamin Sweet (Lisa Peel) of Calgary. The youngest son of Robert and Mona (Lake) Sweet of Windsor, Nova Scotia, he was pre-deceased by two of his brothers, Arthur (Shirley) of Toronto and Robert (May) of Rothesay. He is survived by Charles (Rita) of Wolfville and George (Phyllis, deceased) of Kentville, and his many nieces, nephews and in-laws. A native of Windsor, Dave travelled the world with his import-export business. He then developed his vending machine and concession business, which kept him closer to home and family. He enjoyed many years working at summer exhibitions and events, selling cotton candy, candy apples and all the other great fun foods. His favourite day was Hallowe’en, when he gave out cotton candy to as many as 600 children. He enjoyed fishing and boating in Florida, golfing and racquetball in Nova Scotia, long-distance biking anywhere, and his own handmade cigars. Growing up in Windsor, he played lots of hockey and is an honoured inductee of the Birthplace of Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a good community member, quietly helping many people in need. One of his proudest accomplishments was raising several thousand dollars to support the Hants Community Hospital with a 24 hour marathon bike ride from Yarmouth to Windsor. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of R. D. Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor NS. The memorial service was held at Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday May 20, at 2:00 pm followed by a reception. Interment was in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dave to the Neurofibromatosis Society of Nova Scotia (26 Shadar Drive, Glen Margaret, NS B3Z ON4, info@nfsns.org) would be welcome, to help with a disease that has afflicted many in our family.
