Eileen Frances Flood (nee MacPherson)

Eileen Frances Flood (nee MacPherson)

After more than a decade with Alzheimer's and, latterly, with Aphasia, Eileen passed away peacefully and gracefully at The Prince Edward Home in Charlottetown, on May 19, 2015, at the age of 65.
Eileen was surrounded by her loving family ... husband John, children, Carmen (Darin), Mike (Lindsay), and Tom (Cori) and fantastic grandmother of Caitlin and Neala Quinn; Liam and Brynn Flood; and Nora Flood. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Angus MacPherson and Miriam (McGarry) MacPherson, and her sister, Carol Arsenault. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by siblings Alexander, Mary, Lona, Karen, Bill, and Renie, several nieces and nephews, and their respective families.
Married in Charlottetown in 1969 following John's graduation from Saint Dunstan's University, Eileen and John lived in Calgary; Hearst, Moonbeam, and Kapuskasing in northern Ontario; Waterloo and Ottawa, Ontario. Working as an RNA in Calgary before Carmen came along, Eileen also assisted John in their publishing venture, Penumbra Press, and inspired him in his university teaching. They returned happily to the Island in 2009 when Eileen was still able to manage the perils of dementia and to share her smile with passion and joy. It was that smile that warmed the hearts of her caregivers and medical staff at the Prince Edward Home, her penultimate home, and to whom our family extends grateful thanks.
Throughout her life, Eileen was unreservedly grounded and without pretensions. Recognized and appreciated by everyone for her infectious laughter, quick sense of humour, and profound ability to lead by example, she was the string that prevented John (whom she affectionately called "No John" at all the right times) from floating off into thin air, and the ribbon that wove rainbows of love around her children and grandchildren. Whether she was curling, playing bridge, or preparing a gourmet meal, she was herself guided by the simple principle of doing her best while having fun.
Visitation at Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Ave., Stratford, Friday, May 22, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23 at 3 p.m., at the Stratford Chapel, Hillsboro Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to your local Alzheimer's Society Branch would be appreciated.
Completion of funeral arrangements has been entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to hillsborofuneral@eastlink.ca or www.peifuneralcoops.com.
