NEW GLASGOW - Myrtle Mae Atkins, age 95, of Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Helene Street, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the Manor.
Born in Lochaber, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Marion (Boggs) MacGrath. Myrtle worked for Payne’s Egg Farm in Churchville, took in boarders and cared for the elderly. She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, the Altar Society and long-time member of the Conservative Party. She was an avid card and bingo player.
She is survived by a daughter, Marion (Tom) Park, New Glasgow; sons: Delbert (Elizabeth) MacGrath, Eight Island Lake; Daniel (Patsy) Atkins, New Glasgow; Harold (Reva) Atkins, New Glasgow; Kevin (Dale) Atkins, Charlottetown; grandchildren: Chris (Janice) Park, Jamie (Donna) Park, Greg (Danielle) Park, Jeremy Atkins, Ashley Atkins (Kurt), Corey Atkins, Darcey Atkins, Shelley (Dennis) Dorey, Angie MacGrath, Rhonda (Barry) MacIntosh; great grandchildren: Cullen, Liam, Claire, Sarah, Lily, Lucy Park, Nick, Gabrielle, Coby, Healie, Kylee, Tanner, Breille, Karen, Bently; sister, Thelma Smith, Trenton; brother, Carl (Nita) MacGrath, East River St. Mary’s.
She was predeceased by her husband Hilary Atkins; sister, Catherine Ross; brothers: Cheslie, Kennedy, Lloyd, Daniel and Edward.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Pictou Co. Food Bank.
