Francis Gerald Walker - 86, of Steam Mill, Kings County, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home in Shannex - Orchard Court, Kentville. Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late Vincent and Alice (Leopold) Walker. In his earlier years, he worked in the woods. Later he became a truck driver, a crane and dozer operator, and retired as a mixer from the Purina Feed Mill, Steam Mill. He loved his cats and enjoyed fishing, watching hockey and playing cards. He also enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds around his property. A great gardener, Francis readily shared his harvest with family, friends and neighbours. He loved children and was known to possess a great sense of humour. Francis was a kind, gentle and giving man and would do anything for anyone in want or need. He is survived by four step daughters, Phyllis Hughes (Percy Russell), Kentville; Lorraine (Orley) Rafuse and Sharon (Wendell) Roast, both of New Ross; Sheila (Kenneth) Hiltz, Queensland; a step son, Thornton (Mary Ann) Rines, Chester; three brothers, Murray, Laurie and Robert (Emily), all of New Ross; three sisters, Ella (Cecil) McDow, Stellarton; Marcella Carver and Ann (Patrick) Hiltz, both of New Ross; a sister-in-law, Mabel Walker, New Ross; numerous step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren; a step great great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ora (Broome) (Rines); a brother, Ronald; a sister-in-law, Gladys Walker; a brother-in-law, Gerald Carver; a step daughter, Hilda Walker; a step son, Fayne Rines; a step son-in-law, Gilbert Hughes; a step daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Rines; two step great grandchildren, Bruce and Annette. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to Shannex - Orchard Court or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Shannex - Orchard Court. Dad was provided with a high standard of care and comfort each day by the dedicated staff.
