Wade Douglas Smith died peacefully in Halifax, NS, at the QEII due to complications following motorcycle accident. Wade was 68.
Mr. Smith was born March 27, 1947, in Hopewell, NS, to his parents, Howard and Vivian (MacLean) Smith.
He attended West Pictou District High school and graduated from UCCB. He married Helen Smith in 1969. Wade worked as a Millwright for Neenah Paper and was also a jack of all trades and could fix anything mechanical. Wade retired and dedicated his remaining time to family, friends and his passions, being a wonderful grandfather to all 7 grandkids and a loving uncle, community service, sailing and crewing sailboats, an honorary member of the Pictou Yacht Club, racing, motorcycling, as well as being involved and active in: Union IOOF Lodge #30 ,Springville, Wawbeck Encampment #12, Stellarton Male Choir, First Presbyterian Church Choir, Chairman of the Board of Managers, member of Session of First Presbyterian Church, Board of Directors of the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou. Wade was a former member of the Eureka and District Volunteer Fire Dept.
Mr. Smith was a loving human being who was known to reach out and help a person up, he worked incredibly hard in all his endeavours and lived life with a passion for God, Family and Friends. Wade completely adored his shitzpoo, Lukie, and shared so many special times with him. As well as his love of singing, motorcycling and sailing, he sang with the Stellarton Male Choir, Barber Shoppers, many solo and duet performances and kept very active in his community inspiring others to be a part and help your community and will always be remembered for his “never give up” personality.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Helen Audrey Smith, daughter, Cindy Boucher (Michael) of Cork, NB ; daughter, Tracey Smith Bateman (John MacMillan); his brother, Gary Smith (Grace), sisters, (Pam Smith and Gail Smith); and 9 grandchildren: Dalton (Pamela), Colton (Krista), Robbie, Noah, Brandon, Jared, Maggie, Chantel, Kyle (Cheyenne), great-grandson, Dominic Holley, uncles and aunts.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Terry Lee, and parents, Howard and Vivian Smith.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell with Bonnie Langille and Rev Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be held in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Wade may be made to the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, or to First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell.
