William Frederick "Bill" Fielding

FIELDING, William Frederick “Bill” – 94, Truro, passed away Friday evening, June 26, 2015, at Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born May 29, 1921, in Inverness, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Murray and Mary (MacLean) Fielding. Bill moved to Truro at an early age and was a lifetime resident of the Truro area. He joined the Army at an early age and was a veteran of the Second World War and served in France, England, Italy and Holland and participated in the liberation of Holland; he was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He owned and operated his own trucking business for many years, mainly collecting milk for Borden’s Plant, owned a service station on Prince Street and was a Commissionaire for a number of years. He was an ambitious person and would try any job including selling Christmas trees, guiding American hunters and driving an oil truck for Co-Op. Bill’s greatest love was harness racing and he was very successful in this endeavour and had received numerous awards. He also experienced great enjoyment with both fishing and hunting. At one time, he played hockey in the District League for McClure’s Mills. His favourite place was the Cabot Trail and he made many trips there. Bill is survived by his daughter, Joan (Layton) Carter; sons, Gary Fielding, Tony (Diana) Fielding, Bill (Kim) Fielding, Michael (Elizabeth) Bornyk; step-daughter, Carlotta (Ed) Langille; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Muriel Blakeney; second wife, Lillian Hinton; half-brother, Dan Angus MacLean. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Wynn Park Villa for the exceptional love and care they provided for our Dad and to the staff of the 4th Floor, East Wing, Camp Hill Hospital, where Dad was also provided special care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bill’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015, and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Bill’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice are welcomed.
