It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear father, John William Drohan, May 2, 1939-June 28, 2015. He passed away peacefully at MacGillivray Guest Home at the age of 76, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Whitney Pier, John was the youngest son of the late Peter and Mary Drohan.
John is survived by his two sons, Sean, Halifax, Stephen (Angelique), Brampton, Ont. and two precious grandsons, Dylan and Connor Drohan. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Marie (Martell) Drohan; sisters, Betty Royal, Annette Parish, Lorisie MacDonald, Irene Lewis and Mona Kanchuck; brothers, Charlie, Tommy, Raymond, Mickey and two brothers in infancy.
After attending Sydney Academy, John worked for a short time at the Sydney Steel plant and then from 1963-1965 he was drafted and served the United States Army where he resided in Texas and spent the last portion of his military service in Panama. He later lived in Ontario and then moved back home to Sydney.
John was a family man for he took great pride in nurturing and supporting his two sons.
Visitation for the late John Drohan will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, July 3 from 6-9 p.m. Memorial service to celebrate the life of John will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in old Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier. Following the committal a reception will be held in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to MacGillivray Guest Home or charity of choice.
The family wishes to thank John’s friends for their kindness to him. Also a heartfelt appreciation goes out to the MacGillivray Guest Home staff for your attention and compassion will never be forgotten.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
