Mary Pacey

PACEY, MARY
Surrounded by her family, Mary Elizabeth (Carson) Pacey passed away peacefully on June 29, 2015. Mary was born in Ottawa on April 14, 1915. She was the daughter of Holford Laverne and Pearl Ateva (Purdy) Carson.
Mary is survived by six of her seven children; Philip (Elizabeth) of Halifax, Mary Ann (David) Johnson of Edmonton, and Peter (Kim), Margaret (Gilles), Michael (Karen) and Penelope, all of Fredericton, as well eleven grandchildren and fve great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Desmond and daughter Patricia.
Mary was an artist whose work appeared in various solo and group exhibitions across Canada. She is represented in many public and private collections and won several awards, including the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour Merit and Purchase Award. She served her community by her tireless devotion to the Multicultural Association, UNB Faculty Women’s Club, Christ Church Cathedral and Fredericton Heritage Trust. She served as president of that organization and edited the booklet Walking Tours in Fredericton, the Colonial Capital for it in 1977. Her drawings also appeared in such books as m,m, The Cat, the Cow and the Kangaroo and Georgian Halifax. She was also an avid gardener, photographer, dog walker and swimmer, at one time holding eight national Masters Swimming titles.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, July 2nd at McAdam’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3rd, 2015, at 1:00 PM in Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton. A reception will be held at the Cathedral Hall on Church Street following the service. A Private family interment will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery after the reception. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, the SPCA or Desmond Pacey Scholarship Fund at UNB would be appreciated by the family.
