Alexander "Sandy" Malachy MacPhee

On Saturday, June 27, 2015, surrounded by family and friends, Alexander "Sandy" Malachy MacPhee, of Charlottetown, P.E.I., aged 44 years, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Sandy is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Kelley Brown; his siblings, Annette MacPhee-Gallant (Mark) of Hammonds Plains, N.S.; Mark (Kathy Charron) of Charlottetown; Marion MacPhee-Bernique (Denis) of Barrhaven, ON; Wade (Tara) of Naufrage; Paul (Melissa Carter) of Monticello; his mother-in-law, Norma (nee Poirier) Brown of Miscouche; his sister-in-law, Tara (Chris) Snively of North Bedeque; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Sandy is predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Paula (nee Sutherland) MacPhee, of Naufrage and his father-in-law, Jack Brown, of Miscouche.
Sandy grew up in Naufrage, P.E.I., and later moved to Summerside, where he began a rewarding career in the Aviation industry with Vector Aerospace, Honeywell, and 3 Points Aviation (Charlottetown). Sandy had a keen interest in learning and technology from a young age and liked to know how things worked. He was an NDT technician, an IT specialist and also performed a variety of tasks and projects throughout his career. He found the industry fascinating and was a mentor to many new employees starting out their career. He liked to talk, debate and share his opinion with anyone who wanted to listen or sought his advice. An avid sports fan, Sandy enjoyed all sports with a particular love of golf, curling and Formula One racing. Although not tall in stature, he was a powerhouse who competed with grit and determination, whether it was finishing third in the P.E.I. Strong Man competition in 1997 or bombing 300 yard drives on the golf course. Sandy was an amazing individual who was loved by many people, and he was delighted to have so many come and share his last few days. Sandy squeezed a lot into his 44 years and had lots of good times and few regrets. During his year-long illness, he became a strong advocate for the importance of early colorectal cancer detection and would like for people to get themselves screened. He loved life, his wife Kelley and their numerous pets.
He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home in Charlottetown on Wednesday, July 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the P.E.I. Humane Society or the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Centre would be greatly appreciated.
