Donald Cecil Bowen

September 19, 1931 – Lennoxville, Quebec
June 28, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Don, beloved husband of Doris Viola (Jenkins), of Calgary, AB, passed away on June 28, 2015 at the age of 83 years.
Don was born in Lennoxville, Quebec on September 19, 1931, the son of the late Cecil W. Glendora (Edwards) Bowen and step-mother Pauline (Edwards) Bowen. He grew up in Granby, Quebec with his sister, Pat (Bowen) Jarvis, and brother, Harold Bowen. Don attended Acadia University and graduated with a degree in Geology. His professional career brought him to Alberta where he was employed by Imperial Oil for 30 years.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Doris (formerly of Charlottetown, P.E.I.), to whom he was dearly devoted and married to for 55 years. An enduring memory to all will be Don and Doris holding hands as they were inseparable. Together they had four children, spouses, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Don loved the outdoors, which included: camping, fishing, hiking, boating, birding, and sharing these activities with his loving family. He supported his children’s activities by coaching hockey, soccer, and leading scout troops. Once the grandchildren arrived, Papa, as he was often affectionately known, kept active by attending more soccer games, celebrations and various performances. What spare time he had he enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles and crosswords.
Don will be greatly missed by his children, Frederick Bowen and his wife Marie, Robert Bowen, Wayne Bowen and his wife Heather, and Irene Bowen and her husband Ryan Rybchuk.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at McInnus & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
