Gertrude Lavinia Holt - 99, of Canning, Kings County passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in her 100th year. Born on July 28, 1915 in Canaan, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Flora (Walker) Hiltz. She was a housewife, homemaker and had been employed with DND Catering Services. She was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Canning, where she remained active as long as her health allowed. She was also a Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch, Canning, a member of the Canning Women's Institute, the Progressive Conservative Party, a proud Charter Member of the Federal Superannuation National Association and a member of the "Rinky-Dinks", a Wednesday afternoon women's social group. She is survived by two sons, Eric Richard "Rick" (Marva), Canning and Harold (Margaret), Dartmouth, two grandchildren, Paul and Kristopher; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Samuel; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric; a sister, Geraldine Shepherd; three brothers, Balfour, Howard and Cecil Hiltz. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service and reception at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet officiating. Burial took place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional Hospital (Emergency Department and Medical B wing) for their care, kindness and compassion. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital or a charity of your choice.
