Joan Margaret McDonald

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Margaret (Langille) McDonald, age 75, of Truro, on July 21, 2015.
Born in Amherst, she was the youngest child of Cecil and Myrtle (Purdy) Langille. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Skinner, of Amherst, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Phillip Howard (Sonny) McDonald on July 16, 2015; her sister, Mildred Clark and her brother, Arthur Langille.
Joan was a retired employee of Maritime Tel and Tel. She began her career in Amherst before relocating to Halifax then Truro. She was a member of the Aliant Pioneers, a weekly volunteer at the hospital coffee shop and a former singer with the Truro Melodies. Joan was blessed with musical talent. She had a deep resonating quality to her singing voice, could harmonize with ease and admired a variety of artists and genres. She played the piano and at 71 decided to learn the bass guitar and hence joined the New Horizons Senior Band.
Joan enjoyed the gifts of every season. In biting wind or warm sun she could be found outside. She loved to swim in the ocean, walk in the evenings and was an avid tennis player, skier and skater. When Joan laced on her racers she glided with speed and grace across the ice whether indoors or out. She was beautiful to watch.
Joan's kindness, compassion and enthusiasm for life brought joy to all who knew and loved her. Our lives were made richer because of her presence. We will carry our memories of her in our hearts and speak her name, often.
A special thank you is extended to Janet and Lloyd Nelson who supported and loved Joan during healthy days and sick. We will always cherish their devotion to her and will continue to embrace them as family.
At Joan's request there will be no visitation. A private burial will be held at a later date. A reception to honor her memory was held at the Best Western Glengarry, 150 Willow Street, Truro on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 1-3 pm. Donations may be made to the IWK or QE11 Hospital or the charity of choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro where on-line condolences may be made at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
