Vera Burke

Born In: Breadalbane , Prince Edward Island, Canada
Born: September 15th, 1925

Passed in: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: July 25th, 2015

Peacefully in her 90th year, Vera passed away in Calgary, Alberta. She started life in Breadalbane to Adam and Cassie MacKenzie. After moving to Charlottetown, she met and married Doug Burke. They moved to Toronto, had four children, briefly returned to the Island, and then settled in Southern Ontario. After Doug’s passing, Vera returned to Charlottetown and lived with her late sisters, Wilma MacKenzie and Mary Gunn. Six years ago, she chose to move to Calgary where she had made numerous visits for twenty five years to spend time with her daughter’s family. She got to watch her “Western Grandchildren” grow up. Brianna, Adam, and Aricka (David) were immensely loving and caring in her final years. She also got to welcome and spend time with three great-grandchildren – Alexa, Lydia and Ryersen. Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and hugs. Her other great grandchild, Brody, lives in Ontario. She said these babies were her greatest legacy. She also leaves behind her daughter, Roma (Rick Mei); her sons Alan (Sandra), grandchildren Jeffrey and Stephanie (Adam); and Calvin. Her son Ron (Janet) predeceased her. While in Charlottetown, Vera was an active member in Trinity’s UCW and in the QEH Women’s Auxiliary. As Vera wished, cremation has taken place and a private burial will occur at a later date “back home” in Charlottetown. From the Island to Western Canada, children to great-grandchildren, birth to death – Vera’s journey was a wonderful circle of life.
