It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Lou Spicer on Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Florence on Sept. 15, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Muriel (MacDonald) Jessome. Lou worked for many years at National Sea Products in North Sydney, where she operated the canteen. She was a familiar face at the North Sydney Fire Hall where she was a longtime member of the ladies auxiliary as well as custodian for the first several years of its operation. She was a former member of the Northern Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary and the mixed dart league and of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Freeman Spicer; by her daughters, Phyllis Spicer (Billy Robinson) of North Sydney, Paula (Peter) Reynolds of Saint John, N.B., Tara (Kevin) Wall, North Sydney; her son, Leslie 'Burger' Spicer of North Sydney. Also by her five grandchildren, Nicole (Russell), Bill, Braden, Kyleigh, Ava; by her brother, Terry Jessome of Florence; sisters, Amelia Jessome, Bev (Frank) Sampson, Lynn (John) MacPhee, Laurie Jessome, all of Florence, Joanne (Jerry) Risser, Bridgewater, Marie Kamermans, Dartmouth and sister-in-law, Marie Jessome of Florence.
Lou was predeceased by her brothers, Joey and Ronnie and her brother-in-law, Bill Kamermans.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick and the staff of Cara House at the Northside Community Guest Home for the care and compassion shown to Lou and a special thanks to Cheryl Bradley for everything she has done for our family over the years.
Visitation for Lou will be held today (Wednesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
