New Glasgow - William A. “Bill” Fukes, New Glasgow. Bill passed away on July 29, 2015 at Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche at age 70. He was a son of Margaret Fukes of New Glasgow and the late Edgar Fukes. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Gallant); his son, Drew (Tracy) and their daughter Hayden of Charlotte, North Carolina; his son, Craig (Shauna) and their children, Nolan and Brennan of New Glasgow. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Joan Fukes; brothers-in-law: Leo (Peggy); Gerald (Bonnie); Milton (Mary); several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Mike, his father Edgar and nephew, L.T. Gallant. He retired from Canada Post after 35 years of service. Bill was involved in the Boy Scouts from Cubs to Queen Scout and was District Commissioner for Pictou County. He received the Scouting Medal of Merit. He joined the New Glasgow Fire Department at 19 and was a member for 20 years. He started at the Nova Scotia Fire School as a student and became a Level 2 Instructor and was Chairman of the Board on his retirement. He had a great knowledge of fire training and was well known and respected in the Fire Service. He received the Office of the Fire Marshall Training Award for Exemplary Service. He was also a member of the Abercrombie Fire Department for 23 years. He was Past Master of Hudson Masonic Lodge. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 am Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Bob Cruickshank officiating. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to Willow Lodge, Box 249, Tatamagouche, BOK 1VO or a charity of choice.
