Obituary for Lorne Vincent Black

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lorne Vincent Black on August 24,2015 in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 90. Lorne was born on July 22, 1925 in McCreary, Manitoba. While in his teens, Lorne joined the RCAF and served with Coastal Command as a Flight Engineer/tail gunner. After the war he was stationed in Calgary, Alberta where he met and married Margaret Florence Dafoe. He served in the CAF with postings across Canada and a stint with the UN in Pakistan. Upon his retirement from the CAF in 1972, he moved to Ottawa where he worked for the Public Service Commission and CIDA as a financial advisor. Upon his retirement from PSC, he moved to Truro to be close to family.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents Albert and Edith Black, Vancouver, wife, Margaret, three brothers, Leonard and Clarence, Vancouver and Clive, Prince George and a sister, Rosamund.
Lorne is survived by his daughter Judy M. Garrison, Middleton, son Donald L. Black (Debbie), Great Village, grandsons Luke, Dartmouth, Matthew (Jaime), Halifax and great granddaughter, Flora Margaret of Halifax, NS.
Lorne had many varied interests including gardening, politics and model railroading; and in his later years enjoyed watching Formula 1 racing, CFL football reading mystery novels. Lorne was a kind and honourable man who cared deeply for his family. He felt very happy to have been able to spend time with his great-granddaughter, Flora Margaret. He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
