NICKERSON, Leslie Leroy – It is with great sadness that the family of Leslie Leroy Nickerson, age 75, of Woods Harbour announce his passing at home on Thursday, August 27, 2015, with his loving wife, children and grandchildren by his side. He was the son of the late Leland and Maude (Malone) Nickerson. Leslie started fishing at the age of 14, and then left home at 17 to travel to Ontario where he was employed by McNamara Marine LTD as a crane operator dredging the St. Lawrence Seaway. He returned to Nova Scotia where he built his home and raised his family. He was then employed by Scotia Marine LTD for 32 years as a crane operator after which he returned to his true passion fishing with his sons. Leslie was young at heart, an avid hunter and card player and he enjoyed many days at his hunting camp with his brothers, sons, grandsons and numerous friends. Leslie was a good provider and supported his children and grandchildren in all their many endeavors. Leslie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gisele; children, Leslie Jr. (Twila), David (Anna Claire), James (Bridgette), Lori (Corey), Christine (Ryan); sisters, Mary, Reta, Barbara, Gloria, Joyce; brothers, Walter, Herbert; grandchildren, Ryan, Curtis, Jeremy, Mason, Tanya, Ashley, Dalton, Brett, Shelby, Nathan, Jessica, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Lilly, Breia, Anna and Raylee. He was predeceased by his sisters, Olive, Florence, Elenor, Ruth, Iline; and cherished grandson, Tyson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Leslie’s wishes were to have a gathering for immediate family at his hunting camp to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the VON or the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
