Cynthia Waniga Jamieson

Cynthia Waniga Jamieson, 74, of Simsbury, CT, beloved wife of Alexander Paul Jamieson, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on Friday, August 28, 2015. She was born on January 6, 1941, in Ansonia, CT, daughter of the late John J. and Mary T. Waniga. She lived in Hartford, CT, St. Louis, MO, and Syracuse, NY, prior to moving to Simsbury, CT, 47 years ago. Cindy was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University and received her Masters Degree in Special Education from Central Connecticut State University. She taught Special Education in Hartford, CT, St. Louis, MO, Syracuse, NY, Simsbury, CT, the Gengras Center in West Hartford, CT, and retired from the Charter Oak School in West Hartford, CT. Cindy truly loved every minute teaching and working with her students. The Connecticut Association of Private Special Education Teachers honored her as an outstanding educator for her dedication to her job as well as her commitment to the kids she loved teaching. Cindy never met a stranger; she thrived on interactions with others as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and often as a volunteer. Her infectious personality always brought a positive vibe to any situation. She was president of the Simsbury Tennis Club, a member of the Simsbury Newcomers Club, the Red Hat Society and was decorated by the American Red Cross Blood Bank by donating over 10 gallons of blood throughout her active life. She enjoyed her local book club, needlework, traveling and crafts. She also looked forward to her summer visits with her extended family and friends at her home away from home on Malpeque Bay in Prince Edward Island. Besides her loving husband of 52 years, she is survived by her two sons, Alan Jamieson and his wife Susan of Duxbury, MA, and Matthew Jamieson of Simsbury; two grandchildren, Alexander and Anna Jamieson of Duxbury, MA; her sister, Marilyn Iezzi and brother-in-law Tom Iezzi of Simsbury, CT; sisters-in-law, Myrna and Susan and brother-in-law, Jerry. In addition; several nieces and nephews; Jenny, Jeffrey, Joey, Samantha and April. On behalf of our entire family we would like to thank the medical teams from St. Francis hospital, especially Dr. James Vredenburgh from the cancer center and Dr. Haris Athar her cardiologist. Cindy will be greatly missed. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, September 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 4, 1 p.m. at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Simsbury United Methodist Church.
